Assam-Arunachal Pradesh Birding Tour

Destinations: Mishmi Hill, Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Kaziranga NP, Guwahati

Durations:  11 nights/ 12 days

Day 1: At Dibrugarh Airport

Our tour manager will welcome you at Dibrugarh airport and transfer to hotel in Tinsukia (1 hour drive). Overnight.

 

Day 2: Tinsukia To Roing (6 Hours drive with Ferry Crossing)

Post breakfast, move to Roing, the Headquarter of Lower Dibang Valley. Reach Roing by afternoon, remaining time is free for you for nearby Birding.

The Mishmi Hills is a southward extension of the Great Himalayan Mountain Range – its northern and eastern reaches touching China. Thye Mishimi Hills can be divided into two large section: The flood plains of the tributaries of Brahmaputra rivers and Arunachal Himalayas and maximum altitude is 9,000 feet MSL. This Mishimi Hills falls under two Dibang Vally districts namely Lower Dibang Valley and Upper Dibang Valley. Snow-capped peaks, turbulent rivers, deep valleys, and abundance of rich flora & fauna are the main features of the district.  This area supports around 675 species of Birds. It is, perhaps, one of  the least explored birding areas in all of Asia and many new species await discovery here.

Overnight stay in Roing.

 

Day 3: Roing –Mayodiya-Roing

This day we will start Birding towards Mayodiya Pass area. Many Himalayan foothill species can be found in this area. Key birds include  Black Eagle, White-browed Piculet, Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, Red-headed Trogon etc. By evening back to Roing for overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Roing to Hunli ( 6 Hours drive with Birding)

Move to Hunli. On the way, try to spot the high-altitude Sclater’s Monal near Mayodiya Pass.

Overnight stay in Hunli in Govt IB.

 

Day 5: Birding near to Hunli area

This day we will do Birding near Hunli i.e. Ithun river Bridge. Whole day in Hunli and nearby. Evening back to Govt IB and overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Hunli to Roing (5 Hours)

Back to Roing and overnight stay.

 

Day 7: Roing to Digboi ( 6 Hours drive)

This day we will move to Digboi, the Oil town of Assam for overnight stay targeting Namdapha NP.

 

Day 8:  Digboi to Namdapha NP (Arunachal Pradesh), 5 hours drive.

Morning move to Namdapha National Park. Overnight at forest rest house or camp in Namdapha NP. Namdapha is one of the excellent National Parks in India located in the eastern end of Arunachal bordering Myanmar. Covering an area of about 2000 sq.km, Namdapha is a Project Tiger and it is reputed for harbouring all the four big Himalayan cats: Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard and Snow Leopard. With altitudes ranging from 200 mtr to over 4500 mtr (accessible up to 850 mtr), the park has a habitat of tropical, temperate & alpine forests.

Namdapha’s great altitudinal variations have resulted in a great diversity of birds. It has about 350 species of birds.

 

Day 9: At Namdapha NP

Whole day birding (trek) around Deban camp with river side. Overnight.

 

Day 10: At Namdapha NP

Deban camp to Haldhibari (6 kms). Trek. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 11:  At Namdapha NP

Trek to Hornbill point (6 kms). Overnight in tents.

 

Day 12 At Namdapha NP

Trek to Bulbulia Point (3 kms). Overnight and stay at tents.

 

Day 13: At Namdapha NP

Bulbulia to Haldhibari. Trek. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 14: At Namdapha NP

Haldhibari to Deban camp. Trek. Overnight.

 

Day 15: Namdapha to Kaziranga NP (8 hours)

Morning move to Kaziranga National Park situated in Central Assam. Home to the Great Indian one horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga National Park is one of the best parks in the world. With an area of 860 sq.km (after recent additions) of low lying grasslands, shallow waterbodies & woodlands this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Assam. Kaziranga is excellent for mammal viewing. The park recently celebrated 100 years of its protected area status. Till now, 490 species (25 of them globally threatened) of Birds have been recorded in Kaziranga NP.

 

Overnight in Kaziranga NP.

 

Day 16: At Kaziranga NP

Early morning Elephant safari. Post lunch Jeep safari in Western range. Overnight.

 

Day 17: At Kaziranga NP

Morning Jeep safari in Central range. Post lunch Jeep safari in Eastern range. Overnight.

 

Day 18: Kaziranga to Guwahati (5 ½ hours drive)

Morning directly move to Guwahati Airport for onward journey.
